Everything went really well! The highlights for me were the fantastic Roman remains — I saw things that I’d never seen at Roman sites before (intact toilets with their cubicular walls at Oudna, the almonry at Makhtar, the triple temple capitolium at Sbeitla, the underground part of the Capitolium at Oudna, the subterranean houses at Bulla Regia, etc.). It’s actually a good job that we’d included Oudna since the recent deluge in Tunisia and the floods near Nabeul had made the roads to Cap Bon and Kerkouane impassable. Everywhere we went Imel said he had a surprise for me, and he did — every site had something different and unusual. The other highlight was the lovely little local hotels in Tangiers, Chefchouan, and El Kef, they were charming! The El Kef inn especially was an outstanding experience.
Ali in Morocco was an excellent and very accommodating driver. His English was excellent, and he found really great local guides for all the sites that we visited.
Imel Daoud, my guide, and Lotfi, my driver, in Tunisia, were also excellent. Very punctual, and reliable; Lotfi was a really good and careful driver and a very cheerful soul! Imel was amazingly knowledgeable about all the Roman sites and sought out some extra sights for me when he realized that I really was only interested in seeing historical sites. They both looked after me really well.
I would certainly recommend Mosaic North Africa to anyone visiting Morocco and Tunisia….
