Here are some highlights of what you will see and experience on the Classic Algeria and Tunisia Tour
Arrive to Algiers and transfer to hotel for two nights. Depending on your arrival time, take a city tour which may include sites such as Notre Dame d’Afrique, the French colonial architecture, and the Palais des Rais. If you have an early morning arrival, you will visit the Kasbah in the afternoon. Rest at the hotel for the evening.

After breakfast, you will travel to Tipaza to explore this beautiful Roman site beside the Mediterranean Sea and then visit the museum. You will not want to miss the historic basilica, which is said to be the largest in North Africa. If you enjoy seafood you may want to try out a local restaurant for a fresh fish lunch in Tipaza. Continue on to Cherchell to visit two archaeology museums that hosts a number of Roman antiquities. On your way back to Algiers, you will stop at the pyramid-like structure of the Tomb de le Christian.

Today you will have an early morning departure in order to wind through the Kabilye mountain range and then on to Djemila. The first stop will be in Setif is to visit the National Museum of Archaeology which hosts the remarkable and intact mosaic Procession of Bacchus. Continue to the UNESCO World Hertiage site of Djemila which has two basilicas and a covered baptistery. Do not miss the Roman theatre, fountain, and intact ancient Roman marketplace. You will have a guided visit of Djemila, including the museum and site. Travel to Constantine for night.

Explore the hillside Roman archaeological site of Tiddis which offers excellent views over the region. You will begin by walking through the arch and to the sanctuary of Mithras, Christian basilica, and Roman houses.
Return to Constantine for a half day city tour and visit the museum of Cirta. You will explore the breathtaking suspension bridges and gorge, Kasbah, and Palace of Ahmed Bey.

Today you will want to depart early to have sufficient time at all the sites. Begin with a stop at Medracen (Ancient Numidian Tomb), which is 58 meters in diameter and 19 meters tall. Then travel to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Timgad, begun by Emperor Trajan in AD100, where you will discover the library, temples, amphitheater, arch of Trajan, forum, houses, and basilicas.
On your return to Lambaesis, you will visit the large structure of the legionary base. Return to Constantine for night.

In the morning, drive back to Algiers for a guided tour of the historic city including the UNESCO World Heritage Kasbah. If time remains, explore the Bastion 23, and museum of archaeology and Islamic art.

If you have time before your flight you will take a guided city tour in Algiers. Your guide will take you to the airport for your departure flight.
Upon arrival in Tunis, the capital of Tunisia, you will be met by your driver and transferred to your hotel. If you have an early arrival, you will visit the historic Tunis medina. The ancient Medina (old city) and ‘souk’ is the traditional market of Tunis. You will make your way through narrow lanes and alleyways stumbling upon local artisans such as copper, leather and wool workers and intricately designed carpets. You will also pass by the famous Zitouna Mosque. Dinner will be at the hotel.

After breakfast, you will travel to Carthage, once the largest city in northern Africa. This site holds ruins from many eras of history, such as the Punic, Roman, Vandal, and Byzantine eras.
We then continue to the quaint village of Sidi Bou Said located on surrounding hills overlooking the Mediterranean Sea where we will explore its beautifully paved lanes and many spectacular sea views.
Afterwards, you will return to Tunis and explore the Bardo Museum (closed on Mondays). This is a world-class museum that contains a vast number of important mosaics from the Roman period. There are numerous rooms in the museum offering artifacts from the Punic to Islamic periods.

In the morning, travel to the enormous Roman Archaeological site in Dougga. This UNESCO World Heritage site is one of the best preserved Roman ruins in Tunisia. The site overlooks its vast surrounding regions. It’s not uncommon to see locals herding their sheep through the Roman ruins.
Continue on to the Roman site of Makthar. Here you will see a Roman Forum, Trajan’s arch, a Vandal Church, and much more. Then you will travel to the important Islamic city, Kairouan. Dinner will be at the hotel.

This morning we will visit the grand mosque Okba Ibn Nafaa and the mausoleum of the Berber companion of Mohammed. Afterwards, you may be interested in a visit to a carpet-making workshop where you can observe, admire, and learn about this incredible artisan work. There is an ancient medina with winding streets, which make for a nice place to have lunch.
When you have completed your visits travel to Sbeitla with its numerous mosaics, churches, baptisteries, temples, baths, and the Arch of Diocletian. Do not forget to leave time to visit the museum. When you are done travel to Tozeur. Dinner will be at the hotel.

After an early morning, travel to the beautiful mountainside oasis village of Chebika. Chebika was once a Roman outpost, but later became a mountain refuge for the Berber people. You can hike through the Chebika canyon to the source of the mountain oasis. From Chebika, travel to Tamerza which is the largest mountain oasis in Tunisia. Afterwards, travel to Mides where you will have a nice panoramic view of the canyon below. The canyon was used for the filming of Raiders of the Lost Ark and The English Patient.
Return to Tozeur for lunch. In the afternoon, explore Ong Jemel, ‘the neck of the camel‘. Travel over barren land and see the Sahara dunes and a Star Wars Mos Espa film location. Return to Tozeur for your night and dinner.

Morning departure for El Jem. The Roman Coliseum in this city is one of the best preserved in the world. It was constructed between 230 and 238 AD and is believed to at one time have hosted between 30,000 to 45,000 spectators. Take time exploring this enormous structure and do not forget to go down to the rooms where the gladiators waited their upcoming battle. There is a museum in the town that hosts a plethora of mosaics.
Travel to Hammamet and if time remains stop in Sousse along the way to visit the Ribat and Sousse archaeological museum. Finish the day in Hammamet and dinner will be at the hotel.
