After breakfast, depart for Cherchell, once the capital of the Numidian kingdoms. Explore its archaeological museum before continuing to the UNESCO World Heritage Roman site of Tipaza – one of North Africa’s most picturesque ancient cities. Wander along the Roman road by the Mediterranean and visit the site’s museum and impressive basilica, the largest in the region.

On the return to Algiers, stop to explore the remarkable pyramid-like Tomb of the Christian (Royal Mausoleum of Mauritania).

This morning, visit some of Algiers’ most important cultural sites, including the Bardo Museum (housed in a charming neo-Moorish villa), the Museum of Antiquities and Islamic Art, the UNESCO World Heritage Casbah, and several historic mosques.

After breakfast, spend the morning exploring ancient Hippo Regius, including its museum and the remains of the Basilica of Peace where St. Augustine once preached. Travel to Guelma to discover Algeria’s best-preserved Roman amphitheatre and several small museums. A stop at Hammam Maskhoutine offers views of its striking multicolored mineral formations created by natural hot springs.

Continue south to the hillside Roman site of Khemissa, home to an impressive theatre and ancient town layout. Later, travel onward to Constantine for an overnight stay.

Return to Constantine in the afternoon for a city tour. Perched above the Rhumel Gorge, Constantine features unforgettable views. Key sights may include the Cirta Museum, suspension bridges, the Kasbah, and the Palace of Ahmed Bey.

Start early as you travel south to the historic sites of Timgad and Lambaesis. En route, stop at Medracen, a monumental ancient Numidian tomb standing 58 meters wide and 19 meters tall.

Continue to the UNESCO site of Timgad, founded by Emperor Trajan in AD 100. Explore its library, temples, amphitheatre, Arch of Trajan, forum, houses, and basilicas. The on-site museum showcases magnificent mosaics discovered in the area

After breakfast, travel north to Djemila, a UNESCO World Heritage site whose name means “Beautiful” –a fitting description for its idyllic hillside location. Continue to Setif to explore the city’s archaeological museum, home to the impressive “Triumph of Dionysos” mosaic.

Drive back to Algiers in the morning. Upon arrival, enjoy a city tour to explore its historic neighborhoods and museums. If you did not visit the Kasbah earlier in the trip, this will be your opportunity to wander through its narrow streets and learn about its rich heritage.
