Here are some highlights of what you will see and experience on the Best of Roman Algeria Tour
Arrive in Algiers and transfer to your hotel for two nights. Depending on your arrival time, you can take an afternoon tour of the city including sites to: Place des Martyrs (17th century El Djedid Mosque), Place Emir Abdelkader, Grande Poste, and other sites if time permits.

After breakfast, you will travel to Tipaza to explore this beautiful UNESCO World Heritage Roman site beside the Mediterranean Sea and then visit the museum. You will not want to miss the historic basilica, which is said to be the largest in North Africa. If you enjoy seafood you may want to try out a local restaurant for a fresh fish lunch. Continue on to Cherchell to visit two archaeology museums that host a number of Roman antiquities. On your way back to Algiers, you will stop at the pyramid-like structure of the Tomb de le Christian.

In the morning, you will visit the Bardo Musuem which is set in a beautiful neo-Moorish villa, the Museum of Antiquities and Islamic Art, the UNESCO World Heritage Casbah, historic mosques. If there is time stop by the Arts and Crafts museum.
Travel to the Algiers airport and take a flight to Annaba. Upon arrival to Annaba, transfer to the hotel.

After breakfast, you will spend the morning visiting the archaeological site of Hippo, the museum, and the Cathedral of St. Augustine. St. Augustine was bishop in Hippo from 395-430 AD and you can still see the remains of the ‘Basilica of Peace’ where he preached many sermons.
For lunch, you may be interested in trying a restaurant along the coast. In the afternoon, time permitting, explore the picturesque Cap De Garde, visit historic mosques in historic Annaba, or return to your hotel for rest.

In the morning, you will travel to Guelma and see the best preserved Roman amphitheatre in Algeria. There are small museums to explore. Be sure to stop at the Hammam Maskhoutine, which is a multicolored ‘waterfall’ spring that has formed from the natural hot spring.
When you are ready travel south to the hillside archeological site of Khemissa. See the theature and layout of this ancient Roman town. Travel to Constantine for night.

After breakfat you’ll begin the day with a trip to the archaeological hillside Roman site of Tiddis, which offers excellent views over the region. You will begin by walking through the Arch of Memmius and to the sanctuary of Mithras, Christian basilica, and Roman houses.
Return to Constantine for a half day tour enjoying this breath-taking city. You will explore the suspension bridges, the Constantine museum, Kasbah, and Palace of Ahmed Bey.

Today you will want to depart early to have sufficient time at all the sites. Begin with a stop at Medracen (Ancient Numidian Tomb), which is 58 meters in diameter and 19 meters tall. Then travel to the UNESCO site of Timgad, begun by Emperor Trajan in AD100, where you will discover the library, temples, amphitheater, arch of Trajan, forum, houses, and basilicas. There is a fantastic museum at the site with grand mosaics found in the region.
On your return to Lambaesis, you will stop to visit the large ancient Roman legionary base. Continue to Batna for night.

After breakfast travel north to to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Djemila meaning ‘Beautiful’ in Arabic. The site lives up to its name as it is uniquely situated amongst rolling hills. You will have a guided visit of both the museum and the historic site. Explore the forum, basilicas, baptisteries, arch of Caracalla, Temple des Septimes, well-preserved Roman market, and theatre.
Continue to Setif and upon arrival explore the Setif archaeological museum with the grand mosaic of the ‘Triumph of Dionysos.’

In the morning you will either take a flight or drive back to Algiers. When you arrive to Algiers take a city tour and explore the historic sites and museums. If you missed the Kasbah on Day 1 you will wind your way through the narrow streets about learn about its unique history. See historic mosques and museums in the Kasbah. Bastion 23, Palais of Rais, is also well worth exploring with incredible architecture and a fantastic location by the sea.
