    Tour Itinerary

    Day 1 Arrive in Casablanca

    Upon arrival at Casablanca International airport, you will meet your driver and be transferred to your hotel in Casablanca, the economic capital of Morocco. There you will check-in to your hotel to rest or explore some of the city.

    If you have an early arrival, you may want to take an afternoon guided tour of Hassan II Mosque, the third largest mosque in the world. Its minaret has a height of 210 meters (690 ft) making it the tallest religious structure in the world. Considered as the most ambitious structure ever constructed in Morocco, the Hassan II Mosque rises above the Atlantic Ocean and dominates much of the city’s skyline. Dinner will be at the hotel.

    Day 2Casablanca / Rabat / Chellah / Volubilis / Fes

    After breakfast, you will travel to Rabat, the capital city of Morocco. While in this Imperial City, you will visit the Hassan Tower, the Mausoleum of Mohammed V and the Andalusian Gardens.

    Enter inside the 11th century fortress walls of the Oudaias Kasbah. Here you will find the oldest mosque in Rabat, the Kasbah Mosque which was constructed in 1150. This Kasbah was where Tom Cruise drove a BMW M3 in a car chase scene in Mission Impossible V: Rogue Nation.

    Afterwards, you will visit Chellah, a fortified Muslim necropolis with a mosque, minaret and royal tombs dating back to the 14th century. It is a common sight to see stork nests occupying the top of the ruined minaret. The walled ruins are positioned on the Roman town of Sala, which you can explore its excavated Roman ruins of a forum, bath and temples.

    If time permits, you may also want to visit the Royal Palace of Rabat where you can walk in the palace grounds and take a photo of the palace from a distance.

    You will take lunch in Rabat and continue your trip inland through the beautiful rolling hills. In the afternoon, you will explore the finest archaeological site in the country, the 2,000 years old Roman ruins of Volubilis. Visit the forum, triumphal arch, and intricate mosaics in this UNESCO World Heritage Site. From there, you will head to Fes, the spiritual capital of Morocco. Dinner will be served at the hotel.

    Day 3Fes

    After breakfast, you will begin your guided tour of the ancient medina which is one of the world’s largest walled cities.  You will explore the labyrinth of bustling narrow streets and markets bursting with fresh fruit, mounds of spices, intricately woven Berber carpets and many other Moroccan artisanal items. Visiting the King’s palace in Fes, the tanneries, and potters are just a few places you will experience.

    You may want to take lunch in a traditional restaurant in the heart of the medina. After lunch you, will complete the tour and return to your hotel for the evening. Dinner will be in a local restaurant.

    Day 4Fes / Marrakech (Full Day Drive)

    After an early breakfast, you will depart for Marrakech.  This beautiful drive will take you up into the Middle Atlas Mountains and along the base of the High Atlas Mountains. Stop in one of the villages to see the colorful carpets, unique to this region.

    Once in Marrakech, you will check into your hotel and then head off to the Djemaa el-Fna, the center square of the medina.  This world famous square is one of the center attractions of Marrakech with its local storytellers, entertainers, and delectable barbeque. It is well worth a visit!  A quiet cup of tea on the terrace of an adjacent café provides a spectacular bird’s eye view of the ongoing activity below.  Enjoy dinner in your hotel.

    Day 5Marrakech

    Jump back in time as you take a full day guided tour of Marrakech. You will discover the Palace of the Bahia, the Saadian Tombs, and many other fascinating landmarks.

    Enjoy lunch at one of the incredible local restaurants and continue with the tour to the magnificent Koutoubia Mosque and the famous Djemaa el-Fna, one of the center attractions of Marrakech. The tour will conclude with a stop by the souk (market) lined with fresh fruit, mounds of spices, intricately woven Berber carpets and many other treasures of Morocco. Dinner will be out at a local restaurant.

    Day 6Marrakech / Casablanca

    Your last day of travel will take you back to Casablanca. If the Hassan II Mosque was missed because of a late arrival on Day 1, this will be the day to visit it. Free time will be given for any who wish to have some final shopping time in the old medina.

    Dinner will be out at a local restaurant.

    Day 7Depart Casablanca / Arrive in Algiers

    Your driver will take you to the Mohammad V Casablanca Airport for your departure flight to Algiers.

    Arrive to Algiers and transfer to hotel for two nights. Depending on your arrival time, you will take a city tour, which may include visits to the Notre Dame d’Afrique, the Grand Poste, and the Palais des Rais.  If you have an early morning arrival, you will visit the Kasbah in the afternoon.

    Dinner will be in a hotel or at a local restaurant.

    Day 8Algiers / Tipaza / Cherchell / Tomb of the Christian / Algiers

    After breakfast, you will travel to Tipaza to explore this beautiful Roman site beside the Mediterranean Sea. You will not want to miss the historic basilica, which is said to be the largest in North Africa. If you enjoy seafood you may want to try out a local restaurant for a fresh fish lunch in Tipaza.

    Don’t miss the museum before continuing on to Cherchell. Here you will visit two archaeology museums that hosts a number of Roman antiquities. On your way back to Algiers, stop at the pyramid-like structure of the Tomb de le Christian.

    Dinner will be in a hotel or at a local restaurant.

    Day 9Algiers / Constantine

    Start the day with an early morning flight from Algiers to Constantine. Explore the hillside Roman site of Tiddis which offers excellent views over the region. You will begin by walking through the arch and to the sanctuary of Mithras, Christian basilica, and Roman houses.

    Return to Constantine for city tour and visit the museum of Cirta. Explore the suspension bridges, Kasbah, Palace of Ahmed Bey before returning to your hotel.

    Dinner will be in a hotel or at a local restaurant.

    Day 10Constantine / Timgad / Lambaesis / Setif

    Today you will want to depart early to have sufficient time at all the sites. Begin with a stop at Medracen (Ancient Numidian Tomb), which is 58 meters in diameter and 19 meters tall. Then travel to the unforgettable UNESCO World Heritage Site of Timgad, begun by Emperor Trajan in AD100. Here you will discover the library, temples, amphitheater, arch of Trajan, forum, houses, and basilicas.

    On your return trip north to Setif, stop at Lambaesis, which hosts the large structure of the Roman legionary base. Travel to Setif for dinner and night.

    Day 11Setif / Djemila / Algiers

    Begin the day with a drive to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Djemila, meaning ‘Beautiful’ in Arabic. The site lives up to its name as it is uniquely situated amongst rolling hills. You will have a guided visit of both the museum and the historic site. Explore the forum, basilicas, baptisteries, arch of Caracalla, Temple des Septimes, well-preserved Roman market, and theatre.

    Return back to Setif for a guided tour of the Setif Archaeology museum, which hosts the large Roman mosaic ‘Triumph of Dionysus.’ This is considered one of the most exquisite mosaics in all of the Roman world.

    When you are ready travel to Algiers for dinner and night.

    Day 12Depart Algiers / Arrive in Tunis

    Depending on departure times to you will have additional city visits in Algiers and then depart Algiers for Tunis. Upon arrival in Tunis, if time permits, visit the world famous Bardo museum or take a Tunis medina tour.

    Day 13Tunis / Carthage / Dougga / Kairouan

    After breakfast, we visit the ancient archaeological site of Carthage, once the largest ancient cities in northern Africa. This site holds ruins from many eras of history: the Punics, Romans, Vandals and Byzantines all made claim to this area at some point.

    When you have completed your visits, you will travel to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Dougga. This is arguably Tunisia’s best Roman site giving the visitor a picture of life in a Roman city. When you have completed your visit, you will drive to Kairouan. Dinner will be at the hotel.

    Day 14Kairouan / Sbeitla / Tozeur

    You will spend the morning sightseeing in Kairouan. You will visit the grand mosque Okba Ibn Nafaa and the mausoleum of the Berber companion of Mohammed. Afterwards, you may be interested in a visit to a carpet-making workshop where you can observe, admire, and learn about this incredible artisan work. There is an ancient medina with winding streets.

    After you will visit the archaeological site of Sbeitla. As you explore this site you will see numerous ancient church sites along with intricately designed baptisteries, temples, baths, and the Arch of Diocletian. Sbeitla also has a museum, which contains a variety of mosaics, and other objects found at the site. Travel to the oasis town of Tozeur and dinner in the hotel.

    Day 15Tozeur / Chebika / Tamerza / Mides / Ong Jemel / Tozeur

    After an early morning, travel to the beautiful mountainside oasis village of Chebika. Chebika was once a Roman outpost, but later became a mountain refuge for the Berber people. You can hike through the Chebika canyon to the source of the mountain oasis.

    From Chebika, travel to Tamerza which is the largest mountain oasis in Tunisia. Afterwards, travel to Mides where you will have a nice panoramic view of the canyon below. The canyon was used for the filming of Raiders of the Lost Ark and The English Patient. Return to Tozeur for lunch.

    In the afternoon, explore Ong Jemel, ‘the neck of the camel‘. Travel over barren land and see the Sahara dunes and a Star Wars Mos Espa film location. Return to Tozeur for your night and dinner.

    Day 16Tozeur / El Jem / Sousse / Hammamet

    After breakfast, we will depart for El Jem. The Roman Coliseum in this city is one of the best preserved in the world. It was constructed between 230 and 238 AD and is believed to at one time have hosted between 30,000 to 45,000 spectators. Take time exploring this enormous structure and do not forget to go down to the rooms where the gladiators waited their upcoming battle. There is a museum in the town that hosts a plethora of mosaics.

    After your visit, we will travel to the gorgeous seaside town of Sousse. If time remains in the day, climb up the Ribat tower in the medina which offers fantastic views of the historic medina and coast. Continue to Hammamet for dnner and night.

    Day 17Hammamet / Departure from Tunis-Carthage International Airport

    After breakfast, you will be transferred to the Tunis Carthage International Airport for your departure flight, thus bringing to a close an unforgettable Authentic North Africa tour.
