If you arrive early in the day, you’ll also explore the UNESCO-listed Kasbah in the afternoon. Wander through its maze-like streets, meet local artisans, and soak in beautiful views of the city and the sea.

If your flight to Djanet is in the evening, you will take a morning tour of the UNESCO World Heritage Kasbah. Wind your way through the labyrinth or streets and see local artisans at work. There are fantastic views of the city and sea from the Kasbah.

Transfer to the airport for the flight to Djanet in southern Algeria.

Arrive to the oasis town of Djanet located at the foot of the Tassili mountains and at the edge of the vast sand dunes of Erg Admer. Here you will be met by your guide, and you will transfer to a local guesthouse. This region of the Sahara could be some of the most remote areas open to tourists.

Your Sahara journey begins! Travel by 4×4 into the extraordinary landscapes of Tadrart, a world of mountains, canyons, rock arches, and vast sand dunes.

Along the way, step back in time as you visit ancient cave and rock paintings, some dating from 12,000 BC to 100 AD, depicting cattle, giraffes, people, and scenes from long-gone eras.

Tonight, settle into camp surrounded by golden dunes and the silence of the desert at D’In-Djarena. Enjoy dinner in the canyon and drift to sleep under a breathtaking canopy of stars.

Today you will continue your adventure through Tadrart, following the wide Mand valley of El Biredj until you reach the striking orange dunes of Moul el Naga.

This morning, set off in your 4×4 toward Zouatane. The journey offers more dramatic desert scenery and remarkable ancient rock art.

In the evening, relax in your traditional tent and enjoy the deep quiet of the Sahara Desert.

Travel to the spectacular red dunes of Tin Merzouga, which rise to an impressive 1,800 feet. This region features some of the Sahara’s most iconic natural arches, including the famous “hedgehog” rock formation.

Continue your journey today through the vast Sahara region to the locations of Tilfazou and Oued Amais.

Your guide will take you to view the renowned Neolithic ‘cow painting’ which depicts a herd of cows with saddened faces. One of these cows is illustrated with teardrops streaming from its eyes. According to local legend, a nomadic shepherd once travelled day and night with his herd of cows in search of a water source. They finally arrived at the location of a water spring only to find that it had completely dried up. It is here that the shepherd decided to carve into stone his cattle’s final moments as they shared in their master’s grief and eventually died from thirst one by one.

Return to Djanet today for lunch and some well-deserved rest. Spend time exploring the vibrant local market, sampling regional specialties and purchasing memorable souvenirs such as the Touareg cheche (traditional head wrap).

In the evening, enjoy a farewell dinner and settle in at the guesthouse before your flight back to Algiers.

Most domestic flights from Djanet arrive in Algiers during the night or early morning. Once back in the capital, you may wish to rest at your hotel. If you’re feeling energetic, we highly recommend an additional city tour to visit museums or sites you may have missed earlier in the trip.
