I had another fantastic tour with Mosaic North Africa!
Ridha and Makram were great and so friendly, immediately putting me at ease and welcoming me to Tunisia.
Ridha was very knowledgeable and very flexible, allowing me to view as much as I needed for my research. He was a great help when Chemtou, one of the sites I really needed to see, was closed by the National Guard and he suggested another site that would be of interest to me. We drove to Elles about an hour away to see the megalithic tombs I had always wanted to study. This was amazing and I am very grateful for his quick thinking!
Although I had an unorthodox itinerary, Ridha and Makram were certainly up for the challenge of getting me to my obscure locations. Especially the Djebel Gorra dolmens where Ridha and I ended up scrambling up the side of the mountain to be rewarded by dozens of tombs peaking out of the mist. This was certainly a highlight!
A further highlight was the rock-cut tombs of Sidi Mhamed Latrech where we were met by the local landowner and I was given the freedom to explore each tomb which was amazing.
An unexpected meeting of archaeologists working on the megalithic tombs at Dougga has also led to great contacts at the forefront of on-going research in Tunisia which should lead to some very interesting insights in the future.
Even though I had such a short time in Tunisia, it was packed with sites and I certainly got a lot done for my research. The flexibility of being able to design my own itinerary coupled with the comfort and ease of having it all organized for me, allowed me to concentrate on getting the most out of each day. Thank you very much for another great trip!
