We absolutely loved Tunisia! It was a mixture of many Mediterranean cultures, but uniquely Tunisian. Even though we knew from our itinerary what we were going to see, we were blown away by what was in front of us every single day. The variety of experiences provided in our tour gave us an deeper understanding of Tunisian history and culture.
The highlights are hard to nail down as we enjoyed everything! George could not get over Dougga, how it was found, how much has been excavated, and how much more may be hidden. It’s the one thing he talks about the most from the holiday. He also enjoyed the Star Wars sites (which we basically had to ourselves!). Chenini and the lunch we ate afterwards also stand out as a great stop. Other standouts; El Jem, riding camels in the Sahara, Sousse and the mosaics in that museum as well as Bardo.
The troglodyte home was such an intimate visit, and very unique. The Dar Ayed Guesthouse was also our favourite hotel and dinner.
We enjoyed visiting the Oasis in different areas, and learning about date palms and their importance in Tunisia.
Can I just say EVERYTHING was a highlight??
Mohamed was such a nice man. Very knowledgeable with the information and did well with English. I think we both learned from each other. One comment (and I know it is the Tunisian way), but the driving can be very fast, lots of tail-gating and at times it made us nervous. We learned to not ask questions when Mohammed drove in the cities as he could get distracted. We asked if he could slow down, and he did. George became his co-pilot in the front.
I have already recommended Mosaic North Africa to many people, and one is actively looking at the itineraries. Biggest question I get when people hear we were in Tunisia… “was it safe?” YES! There was not once on our holiday that we did not feel safe. The Tunisian people are just lovely and often wanted to gift us things (pomegranates, desert rose, tea, dates), just because we were Canadian!
This holiday stands out to both of us for the history and magnitude of archeological sites in Tunisia. Tunisia really has everything without all the tourists; beautiful beaches, salt lakes, olive trees as far as the eye can see, the Sahara, camels, movie locations, Oasis, delicious food and the Tunisian people.
Thank you for helping us experience Tunisia!
