David - Algeria Tour

Countries visitedAlgeria
Date of tourJuly 2026
Our trip was amazing, albeit very hot. ;)
We really enjoyed getting to see the north-east of Algeria: It was much greener and hillier than expected, and it was interesting to get to learn (and experience) some of the local landscape and climate, as well as the rich history of the country.

Of course, historically the Roman ruins first and foremost, but also the Numidian, Punic and Ottoman were fascinating to visit: we especially enjoyed Tiddis, Timgad, the Numidian mausoleum and of course Djemila.

For us it was also very nice to visit/drive through some of the rural areas and villages and see some of the local, less touristic aspects of the people and country – our lunch in Seraïdi was very tasty, but also culturally enlightening. :)

The museums in Algiers and Setif were top tier: very interesting and also well done (even if the revolution-museum in Algiers is not all for the faint of heart).
We also really enjoyed the palaces in Constantine and Algiers.

Our day with Sofiane was intriguing: He knows the region very well, seeing as he grew up there and thus was able to give us interesting insights. We enjoyed the time with him, a big highlight being the lunch-trip to Seraïdi and the beautiful St. Augustine Cathedral.

The time with Mhamid was fantastic. To quote him: “The tour felt more like a trip with good friends!” Which we can wholeheartedly agree with! We enjoyed the time with him and his insights into the land, culture and developements  of Algeria in general. The conversations we had with him over the course of the long car rides, ranging from everyday hobbies to deep discussions on morals, politics, football and religion.

We all agreed (even without extrinsic motivation of the immigration officer on leaving), that we would love to come back and see even more of the country – especially the south with the desert, as well as experiencing the, once again very different far west in Oran. Algeria hasn’t seen the last of us, or we of it! :)
