Southern Tunisia is not only famous for the endless dunes in the Sahara desert, but it is also known for its beautiful beach resorts. The island of Djerba and Zarzis are popular tourist locations to spend your next beach holiday in Southern Tunisia.

The Island of Djerba

The island of Djerba is an interesting destination for an extraordinary holiday. The hotel infrastructure is well developed and there are options for accommodations for any budget. It is also fair to say that Djerba is the home of some of the most refined 5-star luxury hotels located in Tunisia.

Once referred to as the home of the Lotus-eaters, Djerba is a historic, cultural, and romantic island. Its east coast is a shimmering stretch of white sand. To the north are the cobblestone alleys and sun-drenched squares of the capital Houmt Souk. The main city is located just 15 minutes drive from the Tourist Zone. It is a beautiful city with tree-lined pavements and small cafes ideal for sipping tea. In the center of Houmt Souk, you can find various silver jewelry, Berber rugs, and ceramics. From here, the island visitors can start on a trip with the convoy of pirate ships. A typical ride will include a barbecue, and swimming.

Sidi Mahres Beach

Sidi Mahres Beach is the island’s most popular beach. It stretches out to 13 kilometers from Taguermes lighthouse in the east to the Flamingo Point. The point is extremely beautiful in February when the pink flamingoes migrate to the island.

Zarzis

Zarzis is the closest town to the island of Djerba. It lies at the southeast end of Tunisia bordering the Mediterranean coastline. It is because of the beautiful coastline that makes Zarzis and an excellent choice for those looking for the ideal summer holiday.
