Meet Imed Zayoud

Imed was born and raised on the beautiful island of Djerba located in Southern Tunisia. He comes from a family background of fishermen and his family also owns an olive factory. Like most Tunisian families, it is common for the children to follow in the footsteps of their parents in carrying on the family business.

However, the story of Imed is a rare story of a young boy finding his dream and inspiring his own family to fulfill this dream together.

Discovering His Dream

When Imed was a teenager, he went on a trip with his friends to El Jem, the home to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Roman Amphitheater of Thysdrus. Besides this 3rd century colosseum, the town of El Jem is also famous for preserving the ancient art of mosaic making.

This was the first time Imed discovered the art of mosaic making. He quickly fell in love with this ancient art. In fact, he loved mosaic making so much that he devoted the next 10 years of his life to mastering the art of making Roman mosaics in El Jem.

From Apprenticeship to Entrepreneurship

After his 10 years of studying mosaic making, Imed returned home to Djerba and opened his own mosaic making and mosaic selling business. Since then, Imed had been running his Mosaic business for the last 15 years.

Imed proudly introduced his mosaic artworks to his own family and they also embraced this ancient art. Today, Imed’s family assists him in making and selling mosaics in Djerba.

Imed owns a boutique in Houmt Souk, Djerba where his beautiful mosaic artworks are displayed and sold. Many people from around the world had purchased a variety of mosaics ranging in all sorts of sizes from Imed. Imed can also create customize mosaic designs and patterns including the use of micro-mosaic, creating replicas of famous artwork, floor tiles, and pottery vases. All of his mosaics are 100% made in Tunisia using stones extracted from various parts of the country.

Imed also owns a mosaic workshop in Melita, Djerba where he currently hires 6 local artisans to assist him in making beautiful mosaic artworks.
