Day 1 2012: HOTEL SAFIR (Half-board)

Algiers

Arrive in Algiers and transfer to hotel Safir for two nights. Depending on your arrival time you can take an afternoon tour of the Notre Dame d'Afrique, Grand Poste, Monument to the Martyrs, and the Kasbah. Dinner will be taken at your hotel.

Day 2 HOTEL SAFIR (Half-board)

Algiers / Tipasa / Cherchell / Algiers

After breakfast your group will depart for the sites at Tipasa. Here you will visit the museum and the Roman site beautifully situated beside the Mediterranean Sea. Your group will take lunch at Tipasa. After lunch you will travel to Cherchell and time permitting, you will visit the museum and Roman sites. You will want to leave time in order to see the Tombeau de la Chrétienne (royal mausoleum of Mauritania).

Day 3 HOTEL EL RABIE (Half-board)

Algiers / Djemila / Setif

Today you will depart (via flight, train, or ground transportation) for Setif in the morning. Upon arrival you will check into your hotel or go directly to visit the site of Djemila. You will have a guided visit of both the museum and site. If there is time remaining in the day you can return to Setif and visit the National Museum of Archaeology which hosts the remarkable and intact mosaic Procession of Bacchus. At the hotel you will enjoy traditional Algerian music and cuisine.

Day 4 HOTEL CIRTA (Half-board)

Setif / Tiddis / Constantine

After breakfast you will travel to the site of Tiddis and take a guided tour. You will return to Constantine for lunch and a visit to the museum. Before supper your group may be interested in a stroll to one of the city's famous bridges.

Day 5 HOTEL SALIM (Half-board)

Constantine / Timgad / Batna

Today the group will drive from Constantine to Timgad and explore this site and museum. Here you will discover the library, temples, amphitheater, and arch of Trajan. After this your group may want to have lunch and then travel to Lambaesis to see the large structure of the legionary base. Hotel Salim will be your place to rest this night.

Day 6 HOTEL EL AMIR (Half-board)

Batna / Tebessa

After breakfast your group will travel to Tebessa. Upon arrival in Tebessa you will visit the basilica of St. Crispina, Arch of Caracalla, Temple of Minerva, and a museum only recently opened to the public, which hosts many Christian artifacts and mosaics. After your visit you will check into your hotel.

Day 7 HOTEL RYM EL DJEMILA (Half-board)

Tebessa / Madaurous / Souk Aharas / Guelma

In the morning you will travel to Madauros (home of Apuleius). After exploring the site you will travel to Souk Aharas where you will find a collection of monuments pertaining to St. Augustine’s life. You will take lunch in this city and then travel on to Guelma where you will visit the well-preserved Roman theatre.

Day 8 Friday, May 11, 2012: HOTEL RYM EL DJEMILA (Half-board)

Guelma / Annaba

After breakfast you will drive to Annaba and spend the morning visiting the site of Hippo, the museum, and the Cathedral of St. Augustine. You will take lunch in Annaba, perhaps at a restaurant along the coast. In the afternoon, time permitting, you may want to visit Cap De Garde, take a walk in Annaba, or return to your hotel to rest. Dinner will be taken at the hotel.

Day 9 ANNABA / DEPART

Algiers

Today the group will fly from Annaba to Algiers and connect you to your international flights. (If you are interested you may want to add a day in Algiers to visit the ancient Kasbah, National Museum of Antiquities and Islamic Arts… and do any last minute shopping!)
